Jumping off point: Only a few decades after slavery ended, a new horror faced Americans, and it wasn't about skin color. Women, who wanted to vote for president of the United States, were ridiculed, beaten, imprisoned and tortured, just for protesting suffrage. Sadly, husbands often endorsed this sort of behavior against their own wives.
Is it possible that politics can actually pit spouse against spouse?
