QR Codes are mobilizing education

By: McGuffie School District

QR codes, (QR stands for quick response) are a curious, if remarkable, form of Web 2.0. When I first discovered QR codes, I was, admittedly, stumped. It didn't take long to figure out the concept -- add a QR code reader to your smart phone, take a picture of the code, and you are taken to a web site, podcast, video or other digital information. Pretty cool technology, but the use of QR codes for education was, at first, lost on me.

Then, thanks to Twitter, I connected with Al Tucker, who supplied me with his amazing site on QR codes. More research brought me to the powerful video above, produced by McGuffie Schools. While most school administrators still reside in the dark ages when it comes to mobile learning, McGuffie School District is a place that truly gets how to use Web 2.0 and mobile phones.

QR codes are a powerful form of Web 2.0 that all teachers should investigate. Check out how McGuffie Schools are using QR codes, and stay tuned to Learn it in 5 for future how-to videos and blog posts about this amazing technology.
