Google wave is dead. The do-everything-Internet-related giant has killed off its e-mail/chat/IM/social network hybrid baby, roughly a year after its creation.
The quick death of what Google once hailed as the wave of the future in online communication (pun fully intended), has to furrow the collective eyebrows of everyone who is connected in one way or another to Google.
As educators, Google infiltrates our lives daily. We search using Google, we use Google docs, Google reader, Google chat, and much, much more. Some educators even supplement their incomes with Google advertising, placed on their blogs or wikis.
So, what if it all comes crumbling down one day? Sure, this apocalyptic crash is unseemly, but suppose even a few of the powerful Google applications you rely on daily for teaching were scrapped as easily as Google wave?
As unlikely as this may be, the demise of Google wave may be enough to make teachers consider other options for the Google applications they currently use.
Consider it for a moment and be honest. Does the death of Google wave scare you?
